Taper Length Drills (8D-30D) Taper length drills refer to drills with long to extra long flute lengths. For our carbide drills, OSG utilizes the designations 8D, 10D, 15D, 20D, 30D and 40D to more specifically classify flute lengths. This designation specifically defines how deep our drills can functionally drill relative to their diameter. In other words, a 1/2" 20D OSG drill can drill a hole 10" deep.
