Flat dies produce external threads by the process of cold forming. Flat dies utilize one stationary and one moving die to form the threads. OSG dies are precisely hardened and can be made available with nitride treatment or our own XBT surface treatment. OSG provides full service localized regrind capability for OSG and non-OSG flat dies.
Planetary dies utilize a stationary segment and a round rotating die to form threads. They are precision ground on both the rotary die as well as the segment die side. Precision heat treatment processes ensure wear life is consistent and can be made available with nitride treatment or our own XBT surface treatment.
Cylindrical dies are ideal for a wide range of precision threaded parts. They are made for through-feed rolling and In-feed rolling. We offer full service localized regrind capabilities for OSG and non-OSG cylindrical dies and our dies can be made available with nitride treatment or our own XBT surface treatment.
Trim dies are designed to remove the flashing left over from the cold heading process on the head of bolts and fasteners. Many configurations are available in several different tool steels tailored for the application. OSG can produce custom trim dies to any desired specification quickly and to the highest quality standard.
Rack dies are designed to eliminate the machine adjustment often required in die set up. Simple die set up installation guarantees the perfect work piece, reduces set up time and eliminates questionable parts. OSG can manufacture rack dies to custom prints and we offer full localized full service regrind capability on all rack dies. Available with nitride treatment or our own XBT surface treatment.
OSG offers a die reconditioning service in our facility in Parma, Ohio. Utilization of this program can lead to signifcant cost savings over the cost of purchasing new tooling. Flat dies, cylindrical dies and rack dies can be reconditioned.
Flat dies are either reground by removing minimal material on the die thickness or reground to the cutomer's specification. Cylindrical dies are reground to the next suitable diameter for the requested pitch. Rack dies are reconditioned by removing the existing form profle and then regrinding a new profle. After grinding, a shim plate is attached to the rack to bring it into new rack dimensions.
Upon receipt of dies for reconditioning OSG performs a full inspection to ensure that the dies are suitable for regrinding.
